The University of Münster
The University of Münster was founded in 1780 and is one of Germany’s largest universities with a long academic tradition and an outstanding reputation. With two excellence clusters in Religion and Politics and Mathematics and more than 30 research centres, Münster Unibversity has developed a strong research profile in natural sciences, the humanities, medicine, law and business administration. The University values the close relationship between research and teaching, extensive advice and counselling services and high student graduation rates.
The University’s international profile is shaped by about 700 international academics and 3,700 international undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students from 130 countries, cooperation with more than 550 partner institutions all over the world, three offices abroad and an ever-increasing number of international degree programmes and graduate schools.
Currently some 45,000 students study here. The teaching offered by 15 faculties comprises 280 courses of studies in 120 subjects, covering nearly all areas of the humanities, social sciences, medicine, law, mathematics, natural sciences and music. University of Münster offers the complete range of academic opportunities – from bachelor's & master’s programmes, doctoral degrees to continuing education courses.
It's hard to imagine life in Münster without the University of Münster. A fifth of the 300,000 "Münsteraner" are students at one of eight intuitions of higher education, of which the University of Münster is the largest. The historical and lively city centre, a rich cultural life and green surroundings make Münster a very attractive place to live. Since Münster University isn’t a campus university and due to the rather short distances within the city, studying, teaching, research and leisure activities are all closely intertwined.
