My research activity is focused on the synthesis and photophysical characterization of organic and organometallic (transition metal and lanthanide complexes) compounds with emissive properties in solution and solid state as self-assembled monolayers. In particular, I am studying the relationship between molecular structure and emission to tune the observable color under photo- and electro-stimuli (this process is known as electrogenerated chemiluminescence or ECL). Very recently, I dedicated part of my work to design water-soluble compounds with high emitting properties for biological application, like the detection of proteins.
