Research in the Dielmann group is centered in the area of molecular main group chemistry and homogeneous catalysis, with particular focus given to developing new methods for the activation of inert molecules (CO2, N2, H2, SF6, SO2, …) and strong σ bonds (C–F, C–O, C–H). The overarching goal is to contribute to the fundamental understanding of chemical bond activation and to make these molecules available as building blocks for chemical reactions - ideally in the course of catalytic processes. We hope to break new ground in sustainable transformations and contribute to the global challenges of energy conversion and climate change.
Our approach to these chemical transformations is based on the synthesis and study of reactive main group species and transition metal complexes with cooperating ligand structures. Present research activities focus in four main research areas:
1) Phosphine-mediated reactions
2) Ligand design and catalysis
3) Reactive phosphorus compounds
4) Capture and fixation of CO2
