Import and use digital IDs with Apple Mail

These instructions contain three parts:

(This applies in particular to Exchange users:) Please check whether the main e-mail address that you selected when applying for your digital ID is also entered as the sender address in Apple Mail and add it if necessary:

2. Import digital IDs

Doubleclick on the saved PKCS#12 file (not the PEM file from the email) to open it.

In the then appearing dialog box click on „hinzufügen“ (“Add”):

To allow the private key to be extracted from the PKCS#12 file the password protecting this file must be entered:

If a message with the error number –26276 now appears:
Please ignore this message; your digital ID has been imported anyway.

Now your digital ID should appear in the list:

3. Try out the digital ID

When writing an email you can select whether the email should be signed and/or encrypted:
