7th Cello Festival of Ouro Branco with broad representation of the WWU
International names in classical music were invited to the 7th Cello Festival of Ouro Branco in Minas Gerais, which took place from 7 March until 3 April. It included Prof. Matias de Oliveira Pinto from the University of Music (WWU), responsible for the artistic direction of the festival, and WWU alumnus Fábio Presgrave. Our University was also good represented by some of its master students: Rafael Frazzato from Brazil (one of the award winners), Constanza Besoain and Karl Figueroa, both from Chile, also attended the festival being in Münster.
The festival, dedicated exclusively to the instrument violoncello, was organised this time in a virtual format due to the pandemic. Thus, enabling a wide participation of teachers, musicians, students and audience from all over the world. For eight days, numerous cellists had the opportunity to participate in Masterclasses, lectures as well as in the National Cello Competition. With the presence of about 100 participants in each Masterclass, 1,500 in lectures and with an audience of 2,000 people in the concerts, the event organisers could celebrate the great success of the virtual edition of the Ouro Branco Violoncellos Festival at the end of the eighth day.
