Welcome Natalia: Supported by a postdoctoral fellowship from DAAD, Natalia Lorena Calvo from Argentina will spend four months with us

Today, Natalia arrived in Münster, coming from her home country Argentina. She is a post-doc in the group of Prof. Maria Celina Lamas in Rosario, Argentina. Contact with her group had been initiated by Francisco Goycoolea who enjoyed a collaboration with Prof. Lamas’ husband. The couple had visited us in Münster last year, and Natalia’s application in the framework of the Short-Term Research Grants program of DAAD is a direct consequence of our discussions then. Natalia is an expert in preparing chitosan-based films as drug carriers for medical applications, e.g. to cure vaginal or buccal infections. Building on our experience with structure-function relationships of well-defined, bio-active chitosans, she plans to collaborate with our postdoc Dr. Sruthi Sreekumar in preparing chitosan nanoparticles and nano-capsules, and with our doctoral student Soofia Khan-Ahmadi to perform antimicrobial tests. We are looking forward to promising new biomedical applications of our precious chitosans, and to the beginning of a new and fruitful international collaboration.
