Eight brand-new young scientists with a BSc in Biosciences
Today, almost one hundred new Bachelors of Science in Biosciences obtained their certificates from our Faculty of Biology, among them eight who did their BSc project in or associated to our group. Katharina Eickelpasch and Anna-Lisa Niemann supported our doctoral candidate Martin Bonin in his quest to understand structure-function relationships of chitin deacetylases. Ruben Eichfeld investigated together with our post-doctoral researchers Dr. Carolin Richter and Dr. Sruthi Sreekumar the influence of the pattern of acetylation of chitosans on their bioactivities. Charly Schwarzer helped the start-up company of our alumni Dr. Rebecca Melcher and Dr. Tobi Weikert to optimize their bioassays for plant biostimulant activities. Yannic Becker used chitosan nanocapsules in the group of Dr. Christian Gorzelanny at University Hospital Eppendorf in Hamburg to characterize the glycocalyx of human cells. Lena Stiehl and Marie-Theres Borowski worked in the group of Dr. Carsten Reissner in the Faculty of Medicine of our University, investigating interactions of the protein neurexin in synapses of the brain. Rosa Al-Qasemi developed a model for skin aging in the biotech company Monasterium, supported by Dr. Max van Lessen. It is amazing what these young scientists accomplished - congratulations! And thanks for the good work. Most of them will continue straight away with Master studies, in Münster or elsewhere, and some will take some time off before taking up further studies. We will be happy to see all of you prosper in the future - thanks for your contributions to our group!
