Code𝛘 Mercator fellow: Prof. Francisco Goycoolea from the University of Murcia in Spain visits us for three weeks

Today, the Code𝛘 Mercator fellow Prof. Francisco Goycoolea from the University of Murcia in Spain and Prof. Bruno Moerschbacher visited Prof. Hans Merzendorfer and his team at the University of Siegen, to discuss a joint research project they are planning in collaboration with Dr. Martina Delbianco from the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam. Prof. Merzendorfer is the initiator and coordinator of the DFG Priority Programme Code𝛘 which aims to decipher the chitosan code, Prof. Moerschbacher’s research question since two decades. Prof. Goycoolea had been a junior professor in Münster for six years before he went on to become full professor at one of the best-renowned research universities in the United Kingdom, the University of Leeds. About a year ago, he received the prestigious “Distinguished Professorship Beatriz Galindo” award in Spain, equivalent to a German Humboldt professorship, to continue his research for four years at the University of Murcia. He is an Advisory Board member and a Mercator fellow of the Code𝛘 priority programme. As such, DFG pays for his regular visits to Germany, to interact with the Code𝛘 members and support their projects with his deep knowledge on physico-chemical properties of chitosans. He will use his time in Münster to perform preliminary experiments towards the exciting project planned in collaboration with the three Code𝛘 teams of Prof. Moerschbacher, Prof. Merzendorfer, and Dr. Delbianco. We will not spoil this here. Watch out for more to come!
