European Academy elects chemist from the University of Münster
The "European Academy of Sciences" (EURASC) has elected Prof. Ryan Gilmour from the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the University of Münster as a "Fellow". Election into the Academy is a great honour and important recognition of his scientific accomplishments. With this membership, the EURASC honours excellent researchers from the natural sciences, life sciences and technology. A total of four members of the University of Münster are now members of the EURASC. The chemists Prof. Günter Haufe, Prof. Gerhard Erker and Prof. Ekkehardt Hahn had already been elected previously.
Ryan Gilmour holds a Chair in Organic Chemistry and is Professor of Chemical Biology at the Cells in Motion Interfaculty Centre (CiM) at the University of Münster. He has already received several awards for his research. Among others, he received an "ERC Starting Grant" and an "ERC Consolidator Grant" from the European Research Council. Most recently, he received the Research Award of the Rectorate of the University of Münster. Ryan Gilmour is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He holds visiting professorships in the UK, USA and Israel.
Ryan Gilmour researches the extent to which the structure and function of molecules depend on each other and how these properties can be specifically influenced by external stimuli - for example, light. The aim is to make the molecules usable for applications in catalysis and biomedicine.

Its aim is to strengthen European science and scientific cooperation. EURASC also aims to use the expertise of its members to advise European bodies on improving European research, technological application and social development.
