University of Münster receives funding in the Ulysseus Alliance

International community shapes the universities of the future

The European Commission is funding the "Ulysseus European University", a network of eight european universities, for another four years. Münster University has joined as a new member in this second funding period. The official project starts in November. Ulysseus will receive 12.8 million euros in funding – of which around 1.7 million euros go to Münster – to support international university alliances to become universities of the future, promoting European values and identity. The alliances also aim to strengthen synergies between the universities' education, research, innovation and transfer activities.

"Joining the Ulysseus Alliance is an important step for the University of Münster in the implementation ofits internationalisation strategy – for example, in the area of mobility and exchange of students, researchers and staff," highlights Prof. Dr. Johannes Wessels, Rector of the University of Münster. In addition, the alliance provides Münster University a strong network for joint appplications for other EU funding programmes. One focus of Münster's participation is the establishment of an Innovation Hub on the topic of "Socio-Ecological Sustainability" and thus providing the European university network with an important hub for research, teaching, transfer and regional development.

Ulysseus is one of the now 50 European alliances with 430 participating universities, 51 of which are German, selected by the European Commission to become the universities of the future. In addition to the University of Münster, the Ulysseus Alliance consists of seven other partner universities: the University of Seville (Spain), the University of Genoa (Italy), the Université de Côte D'Azur (France), the Technical University of Košice (Slovakia), MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® (Austria), Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences (Finland) and the University of Montenegro (Montenegro).
