How to obtain a library card?
Non-members of the University of Münster can apply for the library card in person or online. If you register online, you will need to enter your personal details in a web form. You can usually pick up your library card on the second working day after placing your order.
Please register in person at the Medical Library (or at the service desk in the foyer of the ULB or at the Social Sciences Branch Library). You will usually receive your library card immediately and free of charge. In order to register you will need to submit the completed registration form and to present your identity card or passport together with the registration certificate (if you are a student at another university in Münster, you will also need your student ID card).
How to locate the book you are searching for?
To locate a book or journal, first search the KatalogPlus, where you find the location and call number of the desired book or journal.
If the desired item is available in the Medical library, you can retrieve it from the reference holdings on the ground floor (books that cannot be borrowed) or from the open stacks on the ground and upper floors (books that can be borrowed).
You can search for print journals shelved in alphabetical order in the basement (currently not freely accessible) by title. The current volumes can be found in the winter garden on the ground floor.
If the item you are looking for is a doctoral thesis, you can search for it in the dissertations and theses database [de] and order the desired item by completing a loan request form and specifying the call number. Usually, you will receive the item on the following day.
How to log into the library's PCs for Internet searches?
Students and employees of the University of Münster usually have a university user ID. This is a prerequisite for using the central data processing systems of the CIT.
Non-university members cannot apply for a university user ID. They will be provided with a limited network account and password at the registration desk of the Central Library. Please bring along your identity card.
