Die Zweigbibliothek konnte jetzt endlich das Archiv der Zeitschrift New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) erwerben. Ab sofort steht NEJM ab dem Volume 232 aus dem Jahr 1945 zur Verfügung (statt erst ab Vol. 322 / 1990) – das sind 37.075 Artikel zusätzlich. Damit wird ein einmaliger Blick in die Geschichte der Medizin möglich. Die Artikel in NEJM wurden 2017 insgesamt 332.830-mal zitiert.

Der aktuelle Impact Faktor von NEJM beträgt 79,3 – das ist Rekord.

NEJM is known for many firsts in medicine, including the first to publish a full description of spinal disk rupture (1934), the first to document success in treating early childhood leukemia (1948), and some of the earliest descriptions of AIDS and its treatment, of aspirin and cholesterol-lowering agents in the prevention of heart disease, and of new molecular advances in the treatments of chronic leukemia and lung cancer (1979/1980). Today, NEJM is the most widely read, cited, and influential general medical periodical in the world. More than 600,000 people from nearly every country read NEJM in print and online each week. Each year, NEJM receives more than 16,000 research and other submissions for consideration for publication. Some 5% of original research submissions achieve publication by NEJM; more than half originate from outside the U.S.
