UpToDate: Editorial Process
Die klinische Reviews-Datenbank UpToDate wurde (schon vor einigen Monaten) aktualisiert und steht nun in der Version 17.3 mit insgesamt 7.700 klinischen Reviews (+300) zur Verfügung aus folgenden Fachgebieten: Adult Primary Care, Allergy, Cardiovascular Medicine, Critical Care, Diabetes, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, Family Medicine, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Hematology, Hepatology, Hypertension, Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, Obstetrics, Oncology, Pediatrics, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, Sleep Medicine, Surgery und Women’s Health. Darüber hinaus stellt UpToDate Drug und Patient Information sowie Calculators zur Verfügung.
45% aller Übersichtsarbeiten werden alle vier Monate aktualisiert, eine Auswahl finden Sie in den Informationen über die neuesten Änderungen. Ab sofort wird UpToDate unter der neuen Adresse http://www.uptodate.com/online zur Verfügung stehen.
UpToDate bietet ca. 150 Be- und Umrechungstabellen an, z.B. für Fetal growth restriction: Diagnosis, Risk factors for prostate cancer oder Mean corpuscular volume. Sie können die Tabellen aufrufen, indem Sie „Calculators“ in das Suchformular eingeben. Neu ist auch die Patientensektion mit 450 Texten (+30%).
UpToDate ist auffallend darum bemüht, durch Aktualität und Evidenz-Grading sich von Konkurrenzprodukten wie der Cochrane Library oder Doctor Consult abzuheben:
UpToDate topics are written by expert authors in combination with our internal physician editors, who are trained in evidence-based medicine and who are also specialists in their content areas. They work together to ensure that UpToDate’s topics answer clinical questions with the best available evidence and an understanding of realworld clinical practice. UpToDate continually reviews information in more than 430 peer-reviewed journals, online medical resources, and guidelines published by major national and international societies. Information in UpToDate, including every update, goes through at least three levels of physician review.
As part of our continuing commitment to provide our subscribers with the most actionable, evidence-based information available, UpToDate began grading recommendations in 2006. UpToDate currently has more than 5,000 graded recommendations, and the process is ongoing. Graded recommendations appear in the Summary and Recommendations sections at the end of topics. UpToDate uses the UTD-GRADE format, a modification of the GRADE system1,2. Grades have two components, a number (1 or 2) reflecting the strength of the recommendation and a letter (A, B or C) reflecting the quality of the evidence supporting that recommendation.
