Münster is a medieval city in the north-western part of Germany with approximately 315,000 inhabitants, comprising about 65,000 students at various universities and academies. The University of Münster is not only the largest University in Münster but also its largest employer.
Founded as a monastery on the site of the Saxon settlement of Mimigernaford around 793, Münster was an important trading city in the Middle Age. During the Thirty Years’ War, Münster hosted delegations from many European states for peace negotiations that resulted in signing of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, ending the war that devastated Europe.
Today, Münster is a charming student city with many historic sites and a lively shopping and gastronomic scene, making it a wonderful destination for a few days.
