Within the CRC we are not only actively promoting participation of female researchers as role models for a successful career in science, but also work on changing the horizontal segregation at an early stage by attracting young women to a scientific career within subject areas of the CRC. This leads to our annual programme SmartMatters4You that brings together high school students in a unique scientific setting to promote scientific self-confidence as well as open professional opportunities in the field of adaptive and intelligent matter. This programme that is supported by MExLab Physik, includes two experimental workshops that transmit competence by hands-on experiments in the field, includes lab days in different CRC labs and companies, as well as public events presenting results to foster visibility of girls in STEM. Overall, the programme reflects a research cycle, open future opportunities in the field of adaptive and intelligent matter, and fosters interest in STEM.
