"God Bless America". Zivilreligion in den USA im 20. Jahrhundert
‘God bless the United States of America": In the USA, religion is omnipresent in politics - God is regularly mentioned during presidential elections or in important presidential speeches on foreign policy. From a European perspective, this religious charge to the political message usually seems strange. This volume takes a look at the close connection between religion and politics, the so-called civil religion, for the 20th century. The focus here is on rituals, such as election campaigns and patriotic holidays, on wars such as the First and Second World Wars or the Vietnam War, as well as on ethnic and religious groups, e.g. African-Americans, Latino-Americans and Evangelicals.
