August 2024: We're looking for you!
You are interested in memory, scene recognition, computer vision? Awesome, the BuschLab at the University of Münster, Germany, is looking for you! We are offering a PhD position as part of our research project "DeepMem: Comparing Scene Representations in Neural Networks and Human Memory," funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for three years.
Why do we remember some events and forget others? Using computer vision and cognitive psychology , we study how scene perception and memory are affected by distinctiveness and typicality. What makes images memorable and how do DNN representations compare to human memory?
The project is a collaboration with Filip Děchtěrenko and Jiří Lukavský, Prague. The position is funded for 3 years at 75% TVL E13, starting around Nov 2024.
Find the official job ad here or feel free to contact us via X for informal questions: BuschlabPsy. We're looking forward to hearing from you!

March 2024
The team of the Busch Lab met for a retreat at the country house Rothenberge in the end of March.
The main focus of the retreat was our research, brainstorming on different topics, lively discussions and some team building activities.
Thank you to everyone for the great stay at the country house Rothenberge.

Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Niko Busch, who received a grant from DFG for his project “The role of typicality in visual scene recognition: A comparison between neural networks and human memories”.
The project investigates human perception and memory of complex visual scenes and how these processes are influenced by the characteristics of the  image.
