The TECHNION group and activity
TECHNION--Israel Institute of Technology
Haifa, Israel
Presented by Jacques Goldberg
Physics experiments at CERN:
- OPAL, CHORUS close to
completion.
- ATLAS, OPERA under construction.
Microtracking imaging R&D:
- Solid doped glass scintillator: long lifetime componentss previously
observed in conventional Cerium doped glass disappear with MCVD (modified
chemical vapor deposition) glass; unexplained excitation observed out of the
doped volume.
- Multiwire proportional chambers (MWPC): 70 microns resolution achieved.
- Sparse CMOS Silicon diode arrays with on board DSP's considered for beam
monitoring in very high radiation environment.
Applications
- Quality control of industrial productiom of detectors for ATLAS (Japan,
Israel) using MWPC muon radiography.
- Measurement of background processes for the neutrino experiments CHORUS
and OPERA.
- Calibration free muon beam radiation monitoring in intense flux
environment for the new CERN-Gran Sasso beam, in collaboration with industry.
Network activity:
-
Technical support for test beam and data collection at CERN.
-
Mickael Khalifa, young researcher, just started a comprehensive experimental
investigation of the unknown glass excitation process previously observed
(presentation will follow during this Midterm Review Meeting).
