AN ONLINE SURVEY PANEL FOR EMERGENCY RESPONDERS

Since January 4, 2021, the survey platform FIRE Feedback has been online - the first survey tool for emergency responders! The panel was developed in a cooperation between the Department of Organizational and Business Psychology at the University of Münster (WWU) and the State Fire Institute of North Rhine-Westphalia (IdF NRW). FIRE Feedback enables the targeted and nationwide survey of emergency forces in practice.
Together, IdF NRW and WWU researchers want to gather new insights into the reality of operations, education and training! The goal is to better understand leadership and teamwork in high-risk environments and thus prepare emergency forces even more precisely for their activities. Accordingly, the optimization of education and training in emergency response is the central project goal and creates the basis for practice-oriented research.

Function in the FIRE project

  • FIRE Feedback allows the targeted addressing of specific groups of people, e.g. all participants of the group leader courses within one year. In this way, specific research questions from the fire department can also be answered by exactly the right people from operational practice.
  • FIRE Feedback allows surveys to be conducted over longer periods of time so that developments can be monitored.

Data protection

The issue of data protection is of great importance. Participation in surveys is anonymous. User data (e.g., e-mail address) is stored separately from the information provided in surveys. Thus, an assignment is not possible. The collected data is stored on servers of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. They are used exclusively for scientific purposes. Commercial use is excluded. The panel software was developed in-house and is therefore independent of third-party providers.

Advantages of the panel for the users

  • Users can make their own contribution to evaluation and research and thus to improving the quality of training.
  • In addition to regular surveys on the topic of firefighting, the panel offers an insight into the world of psychology, e.g. in the form of psychological self-tests with individual feedback.
  • High data protection standards
