1. Vortrag/Talk (14:15 - 15:00)

Geometric non-linear wave equations

Sprecher: Gustav Holzegel

This talk will be an introduction to non-linear wave equations appearing in geometry, most prominently the theory of general relativity. I will describe some of the classical theory in flat space from a geometric point of view and present some recent developments understanding linear and quasilinear wave equations on black hole backgrounds. The relation to the stability of black holes will also be briefly discussed.

2. Vortrag/Talk (15:15 - 16:00)

Perturbed wave equations on black hole spacetimes

Sprecher: Christopher Kauffman

In the study of wave equations on black hole spacetimes, one must be careful to account for the presence of null geodesics (light rays) which can be "trapped" at a fixed distance from the event horizon. I will discuss the role trapping plays in the analysis of perturbed wave equations in these spacetimes, and present methods developed to account for this around Schwarzschild and subextremal Kerr black holes.
