Increasing the Sustainability of Lithium-ion Batteries
Increasing the sustainability of batteries is one of the hot topics in research. Dr Dominic Bresser from Helmholtz Institute Ulm addressed this topic in his talk given at MEET Battery Research Center on 5th February 2024. With his presentation, he kicked off the 2024 seminar series of the ECS Student Chapter Münster and the International Graduate School BACCARA (Battery Chemistry, Characterization, Analysis, Recycling, and Application).
Dr Bresser presented the over 50 participants recent approaches from his research group to increase the sustainability of lithium-ion batteries. Together with his team, the MEET alumni investigates the recyclability of graphite anodes and the use of alternative fluorine-free binders. In addition, the group leader at Helmholtz Institute Ulm focuses on cobalt-free cathode materials. He showed in his talk a promising way to increase the cycling performance of such electrodes by stabilizing their interface with certain preparation conditions.
After his talk, Dr Bresser seized the opportunity to explore the new infrastructure in the laboratories at MEET Battery Research Center and Helmholtz Institute Münster. Moreover, he connected with colleagues and discussed current research questions with the PhD students.
Upcoming Event in April 2024
In two months, the International Graduate School BACCARA together with the ECS Student Chapter Münster will continue their event series: Renowned guest speakers will be solid-state battery expert Prof. Maria Rosa Palacin Peiró and Stanford professor William Chueh. The event will take place at MEET Battery Research Center on 12th April 2024. Detailed information will follow.
