Battery Researcher Martin Winter Awarded “Silver Pannier”
Battery researcher Prof. Martin Winter has been awarded the “Silver Pannier Dedication” for his commitment to the city of Münster. With this award, which is presented every two years, the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) in Münster honours people who contribute positively to the image and charisma of the city. Martin Winter is thus in line with prominent award winners such as Olympic winner and riding champion Ingrid Klimke, publisher Wolfgang Hölker or “Wilsberg” author Jürgen Kehrer. The second award winner in 2022 is Dr Anke Meizies, Adolph-Kolping-Berufskolleg Münster, she received the “Silberne Kiepe Hospitality”.
Münster Battery Research Hotspot Thanks to Martin Winter
Prof. Winter swapped his research laboratory and office desk for an evening at the Hotel Kaiserhof for the award ceremony. The “Silver Pannier” was awarded to the chemist in front of several hundred guests. The laudatory speech for the internationally renowned battery researcher was given by the last award winner: music producer Steffi Stephan.
Martin Winter is founding director and scientific director of MEET Battery Research Center at the University of Münster and of Helmholtz Institute Münster (HI MS; IEK-12), a branch of Forschungszentrum Jülich. He has been researching in the field of electrochemical energy storage and energy conversion for more than 30 years. His focus is on the development of new materials, components and cell designs for lithium-ion and lithium-metal batteries as well as for alternative battery systems.
