Event Provides Insights into Career Pathways in Chemistry and Electrochemistry
What career opportunities exist after PhD studies and how to reach your professional goals? The first career event in 2023, hosted by the ECS Student Chapter Münster and the international Graduate School BACCARA, focused on exactly these questions. With a special spotlight on career pathways of women in battery research, the event encouraged numerous young scientists to explore research, career opportunities and personal paths of the speakers. The event took place at MEET Battery Research Center of the University of Münster on March 17, 2023.
From Junior Research Groups to Professorship
How do I create my own junior research group? Which aspects need to be considered and which paths lead to this goal? With Dr Karin Kleiner, MEET Battery Research Center, Dr Nella Vargas-Barbosa, Helmholtz Institute Münster (HI MS), and Dr Anja Bielefeld, Justus Liebig University Giessen, three leaders of junior research groups gave insights into the successful establishment of such groups. Dr Kerstin Neuhaus from HI MS presented how the next step to lead a research group can be taken. Afterwards, Prof. Dr André Gröschel, Institute for Physical Chemistry at the University of Münster, presented how to become a professor, what tasks and challenges a professorship entail, and how family matters can be accounted for. All speakers agreed that a career in science offers plenty of opportunities and incentives to realize own ideas and to actively shape battery research. Hanna Nölting from the Dual Career Service at the University of Münster offered advices specifically on career perspectives for scientific employees and their partners.
The two speakers Dr Kristina Borzutzki, Leader Chemical Process Engineering at Fraunhofer Research Institution for Battery Cell Production FFB, and Dr Tina Gröschel, Director of Polymer Testing at Evonik, focused on career opportunities in chemical and battery industry.
Next Event of the ECS Student Chapter Münster in April 2023
The career event kicked off the event year of the ECS Student Chapter Münster. The next highlight follows in May with the start of the regular online seminar series on various topics of the battery sector that the team offers in collaboration with the international Graduate School BACCARA. The first seminar, which will be held on May 11th, 2023, deals with solid state batteries.
