This course is designed particularly for those students who will become primary school English teachers. The course will introduce students to current and innovative concepts and approaches of learning and teaching English with young learners. It will provide an overview on aspects of content orientation, differentiation and individualization in heterogeneous settings, complex competence tasks, cultural learning, global learning and the use of literature with young language learners. Aspects of inclusion as well as digitalization will be discussed in this course in various contexts. Overall, students will gain first insights into how an innovative and current approach to foreign language learning at primary level is firmly based in theory and can be put into practice while keeping the needs of young language learners in mind. Different texts will be used in class – a list of literature will be provided in the first session. This class finishes with a module exam – details will be provided in class.

Please note: Our class on May 7th will NOT take place from 8-10 but from 16-18. We'll visit a guest lecture from Prof. Dr. Raphaela Porsch (University of Vechta) on the topic "Starting Early?!"
