”Oracy [denotes] the competence of language learners to realise their own [listening and] speaking intentions and to successfully participate in oral discourse in the target language.” (Siepmann et al. 2024)
This seminar will take a decidedly hands-on approach to answering the question how this complex competence can be fostered and assessed in the EFL classroom. As a basis, we will use the OraCycle as an evidence-based planning framework to develop our own teaching concepts. As an additional incentive, these teaching units may be (voluntarily!) shared with teachers on an online platform. Join us for a week of creative work, a practical exploration of theoretical concepts and some first-hand experience with an innovative approach to lesson planning. The week will entail intense, collaborative work, but will equip you with valuable skills and a full-fledged teaching unit that you may put to practice once you are entering in-service teacher training. The course will require limited reading load in advance. The seminar paper may be based on the work done in the intensive course and may include collaborative elements.
