This course offers a comprehensive insight into the history, development and current situation of Christianity in Iran and the Indo-Persian region. Starting with the earliest Christian communities in late antiquity, the spread of Christianity in the Sassanid Empire and its relationship to Zoroastrianism and Islam is examined.

The course covers central topics such as the role of the Church of the East, Christian missions, and the influence of Christian minorities on Persian culture and society. Particular attention is paid to the periods of persecution and tolerance, as well as the challenges facing Christians in this region today.

Through historical texts, religious sources and contemporary analyses, participants gain a deep understanding of the complex relationship between Christianity and the Indo-Persian cultural area. The course is aimed at those interested in the history of religion, theology and Middle Eastern studies and promotes an interdisciplinary approach to this fascinating topic.
