In today's society, mass media are omnipresent. Therefore, it is not surprising that recent research suggests that mass media play a key role in how we develop career interests and make career decisions (Gehrau et al., 2016; Kinast et al., 2023). This seminar will explore how fictional and non-fictional media exposure influences our occupational perceptions of certain professions and what this means for individuals and economies. In this context, we will discuss different concepts of media effects (e.g. cultivation, social learning, parasocial relationships and wishful identification). Seminar, discussions and contributions will be held in English. International students are welcome.
