This course will focus on communicative language skills necessary in the practice of medicine. We will work on techniques for soliciting information from patients, creating a trusting doctor-patient relationship and communicating with colleagues. One important emphasis of this course will be to differentiate between technical medical terms and the language commonly used by patients. The main fields we will be dealing with are: basic vocabulary necessary in wards and surgeries to deal with patients and talk with colleagues, history taking, writing letters of referral, medical reports, and possibly other communication situations like giving instructions, explaining diagnosis and management, giving bad news, dealing with difficult patients – The instructor will try to incorporate any suggestions or requests according to the students’ needs, interests and experience.Der Kurs besteht aus 10 Präsenzsitzungen und 2 Selbstlerneinheiten.
