This seminar will investigate the role of institutions in the circulation of English-language literature. Seeking to extend the field of inquiry beyond the traditionally considered centres of anglophone literary production, the seminar will cover topics such as publishing houses, literary festivals, prizes, libraries and universities, and book markets. This seminar will draw on theoretical perspectives from the interdisciplinary field of the 'sociology of literature', including the work of DF McKenzie, Robert Darnton, and Pierre Bourdieu.
