If you have ever looked into a kaleidoscope, you would recall seeing the light and patterns changing completely when you tilted the kaleidoscope to a slightly different angle. In this seminar course, we will peek into cultures that brought colors to America by examining various types of literatures, film, and media. From Native American farming practice, to the model minority myth, and to the history behind American liberal art education, you will be exposed to a variety of topics and at the same time prepare a short poster presentation on your topic of interest as the final project. Come closer to this gigantic kaleidoscope and you will be surprised at how different America looks when you just alter the angle a little bit.
Students will have the opportunity to earn 5 LP within this class by developing and working on a project that has to be presented to other students on 24.01.24, 18-20 h. If you wish to participate, please register in LSF ("belegen") by October 6th, 2023.
