The seminar gives an insight into international media system research and provides information about history, organizers, producers, forms of organization of media systems around the globe. The seminar compares different media systems in Europe, as well as in America, Asia and Africa. While the US elections have produced new media trends in (North) America, China in particular faces the challenges of an Internet audience that is difficult to control. Political upheavals have also affected media systems in (North) Africa. In addition to the differences in media systems worldwide, the seminar will focus on common challenges in a globalized and multimedia world, including global media companies such as Facebook and Google. The aim of the course is to teach students basic knowledge about international media systems research as well as knowledge about similarities and differences of media systems in the whole world.
