Hilbert's fifth problem and approximate subgroups WS 2021/22, Tingxiang Zou

In this course we will cover Hilbert's fifth problem, more precisely, the proof of the Gleason-Yamabe theorem, which describes the structure of locally compact groups. Our aim is to see the application of this theorem to the classification of finite approximate subgroups by [Hrushovski, 2012] and [Breuillard, Green and Tao, 2012].
