Born on April 25, 1945 in Baku (Azerbaijan) in military personnel family. In 1968 he completed with honors the Dnepropetrovsk National University (DNU) on the speciality "theoretical physics". In 1972 he defended Ph.D. thesis and in 1992 - habilitation thesis. Since 1993 to 1999 A. Kapustnikov was the chair of the Theoretical Physics Department of DNU. In 1994 he initiated the creation of the research laboratory of theoretical physics. He gave the teaching courses in Quantum Mechanics, Quantum Electrodynamics, Supersymmetry, Theory of Strings, Quantum Field Theory. Supervised work of many post-graduate students. He had a title of Soros Assistant Professor.

A. Kapustnikov deceased suddenly on April 12, 2003.

Scientific interests of A. Kapustnikov were connected with new developments in theoretical physics. Already first of his scientific works distinguished themselves by deep and original approach. Thus in 1972 he published works on nonlinear realizations of chiral symmetry of nonleptonic weak interactions, in which he presented for the first time the proof of the famous selection rule "ΔT=1/2", observed in decays of K-mesons.

The works of A. Kapustnikov received the international recognition, they were supported by such leading scientists as academician of Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Dmitrij Vasilievich Volkov (Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology, Ukraine) and Professor Victor Isaakovich Ogievetsky (JINR, Dubna, Russia). Since 1976 with the backing of V. I. Ogievetsky he actively collaborated with Dubna scientists E. Ivanov, S. Krivonos, A. Pashnev, A. Sorin, B. Zupnik. The most important results of these investigations were published at the end of 80th and beginning of 90th in papers on quantum field theory with spontaneously broken supersymmetry.

In recent years A. Kapustnikov investigated M-theory and superbranes, he studied an approach providing condensation of super-p-branes in the framework of nonperturbative quantum field theory as a consequence of the partial breaking of global N=2,4 supersymmetries.

A. Kapustnikov is the author of more than 50 scientific papers.
