Abstract of Research Project

Aliphatic acyclic and cyclic amines are important compounds in organic chemistry because of their biological activity as well as their occurrence in many natural products. The most atom economical way to synthesize such amines is the direct addition of amines across a C-C multiple bond, by a so-called hydroamination reaction.

Few attempts have been made using metal-catalyst to develop a general way to hydroaminate C-C multiple bonds, but this problem is not still solved to date. To the best of our knowledge, there is no reference on hydroamination of alkenes or alkynes by using radical chemistry. In our group a new method of radical hydroamination has been developed using aminated cyclohexadienes. Activated double bonds have been successfully hydroaminated using this approach. However, for less reactive double bonds the yield of the desired hydroamination product is very low.

The goal of my thesis is to further develop the radical hydroamination method. In particular the hydroamination of 1-octene will be of importance. Furthermore, the aminated cyclohexadienes should also be tested as N-sources in transition metal-mediated hydroamination reactions.
