PhD Project: Metal-mediated base pairs with sulfur-containing ligands
Abstract of Research Project
The diversity of application makes DNA and its derivatives an area of interest, in particular as the oligonucleotide synthesis has been well-established by chemical as well as biochemical processes. The implementation of non-natural base pairs results in an even more extensive applicability. A replacement of natural nucleosides by suitable ligands leads to an increased affinity towards metal ions, i.e. to the formation of metal-mediated base pairs. In this context, sulfur-containing ligands have not been studied thoroughly yet. The existence of a variety of ligands with sulfur and/or nitrogen donor sites enables a systematic study and is expected to lead to new metal-mediated base pairs comprising comparably soft metal ions.
