Abstract of Research Project
"Omnus cellula e cellula"
Rudolf Virchow
In order to divide cells have to perform a process called the cell cycle. The
progress of the cell cycle is striktly regulated, since the disregulation may
lead to genetic damage and tumor formation. The control of cell proliferation
is closely linked to the regulation of transcription. B-Myb is a member of the
Myb family of transcription factors. The B-Myb gene is widely expressed in all
dividing cells suggesting its universal role during the cell cycle. Consistent
with this is the fact that B-Myb knock out mice die early in development.
To extent our knowledge of the function of B-Myb, in my PhD thesis I am
analyzing the precise mechanism by which B-Myb regulates the progression of
the cell cycle.
