Title: Solvent free LiC(SiMe₃)₃ as a valuable starting compound in group 13 chemistry.

Abstract of Research Project

C(SiMe₃)₃ is a well known ligand for the stabilisation of group 13 compounds containing the elements in an unusual oxidation state. As a result of the synthetic procedure the compound crystallises with one or more equivalents of tetrahydrofuran. The presence of ether prevents its application in many reactions.
The objective of the project will be the synthesis of solvent free LiC(SiMe3)3 following procedures from the literature. The use of this bulky ligand is hoped to lead to element hydrides and new sub-valent Group 13 element compounds (e.g. clusters).
