Introduction to Islam

This introductory seminar will offer to students an introduction to Islam in its historical, systematic and everyday dimensions. The seminar is thematically divided into five parts: a) History of Islam, b) Koran and Koran interpretation, c) Relationship between theology, law, ethics and religious practice in Islam, d) Unity and diversity of contemporary Islam, e) Islamic perspectives on other religions. The basis for the exploration of these themes are texts from Islamic theology, Islamic studies and religious studies. During the course of the seminar, two Muslim theologians will lead a seminar session. Part of the introductory seminar is an exchange with people in the mosque community and an excursion to the interactive traveling exhibition "Exit Racism" about anti-Muslim racism as an everyday experience in Dortmund.

The seminar takes place in German.
