Die „Positivgesellschaft“

Abstract

Der koreanischstämmige Philosoph Byung-Chul Han analysiert in Teilen der westlichen Gesellschaften einen interessanten Wandel: die Disziplinargesellschaft, in der Individuen in eine feste Ordnung eingefügt werden sollten bzw. sich davon emanzipierten, wird durch eine Positiv- bzw. Leistungsgesellschaft abgelöst. Sie folgt einer vornehmlich neoliberalen Logik und muss daher alle negativen Anteile eliminieren, da Negativitäten den „Deal“ stören. Ein Christentum bzw. eine Religion, die Kontingenzen voraussetzt und bewältigen möchte, wird damit buchstäblich funktionslos. Dies hat fundamentale Konsequenzen für die Pastoraltheologie: Sie kann nicht mehr davon ausgehen, dass Menschen heute etwas fehlt, was Religion füllen oder ergänzen könnte. Zugleich muss sie auf die Aporien dieser Gesellschaftslogik hinweisen und sich mit denen solidarisch erweisen, die in ihr nicht bestehen können.

The Korenian-born philosopher Byung-Chul Han analyzes an interesting change in parts of Western societies: the disciplinary society, in which individuals were supposed to be inserted into a fixed order or emancipated themselves from it, is being replaced by a meritocracy. It follows a primarily neoliberal logic and must therefore eliminate all negative parts, as negativity disrupts the "deal". A Christianity or a religion that presupposes human limitations and wants to cope with them becomes literally functionless. This has fundamental consequences for pastoral theology and care: it can no longer assume that people today lack something that could fill or complement religion. At the same time, it must point out the aporias of this social logic and show solidarity with those who cannot survive in it.
