Nachvolkskirchliche Volksfrömmigkeit?

Abstract

Bei der Frage nach Ausdrucksformen des Christlichen in der gegenwärtigen Transformation der Volkskirche spielt die Volksfrömmigkeit eine zentrale Rolle. Eine Bestimmung dessen, was mit „Volkskirche“ und „Volksfrömmigkeit“ gemeint sein kann, führt zum Arbeitsbegriff einer „nachvolkskirchlichen Volksfrömmigkeit“. Ausgehend von einschlägigen Äußerungen von Papst Franziskus im Horizont der Volk-Gottes-Ekklesiologie des II. Vaticanums und mit einem Seitenblick auf Entwicklungen in Frankreich ist zu fragen, inwiefern Kirche und Theologie dieses Locus theologicus gewahr und ihm gerecht werden können.

Popular piety plays a central role in determining what expressions Christian faith can assume in the current transformation of the “People's Church” (Volkskirche). Resolving what is meant by “People's Church” and “popular piety” leads to the creation of the working proposition of a “popular piety in the post-People’s Church” (nachvolkskirchliche Volksfrömmigkeit). Based on relevant statements of Pope Francis concerning the People of God ecclesiology of Vatican II – and with a glance toward developments in France – this article asks how the Church and theology can understand and do justice to this locus theologicus.
