Abstract

The great number of cases of separation from the Institute led the former Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life to issue guidelines on this subject under the title "Il dono della fedeltà. La gioia della perseveranza". Of this document, published on February 2, 2020, there is so far no official German translation. Moreover, since the issuance of the guidelines, there have been two amendments to the norms regarding the separation of religious from the Institute, which have granted more autonomy to the Institutes. This makes it all the more necessary to have a precise knowledge of the canonical norms in this matter in order to ensure that the rights of the religious concerned are safeguarded in the case of separation from the Institute. This article aims to contribute to this with its overview of the applicable law.
