In spring 2021, a seminar at the University of Tübingen developed a VR exhibition on late Roman contorniates, which was shown in autumn 2021 at the Museum of the University of Tübingen MUT and in summer 2022 as a travelling exhibition at the Institute of Numismatics and Monetary History at the University of Vienna. Building on the experience gained from the two exhibitions, this paper will discuss the potential and limitations of using VR in exhibiting numismatic objects.
