The supply of coins to Haltern and Kalkriese - a discussion

Abstract

In his most recent study of the countermarks from Kalkriese, Reinhard Wolters suggests that Haltern and Kalkriese received a renewed supply of Asses of the first Lyons Altar Series after the year 9 A.D. His theories are based on the chronological order of the countermarks CVAL and IMP with Lituus. In this paper the date of the countermark IMP with Lituus and the possibility of linking this punch to Germanicus will be examined critically.
