Project

Our project  „Komm Schreib! Kooperativ, kompetent, motiviert Schreiben“ focuses on third and fourth grader writing skills, writing motivation, and social participation in the classroom. We aim to promote these three aspects with an intervention developed together with teachers that takes into consideration the gamut of different learners, especially paying heed to learners with multilingual backgrounds.

The project includes

 * professional development for teachers,
 * language arts materials for third and fourth graders,
 * professional guidance and support throughout the project,
 * feedback reports and
 * an afterschool program with tablets financed by the BMBF and carried out by us.

Target group

Our project is open for teachers of all subject areas.  The intervention is aimed at students in grades 3 and 4.

Why is participation worthwhile?

Writing competence, writing motivation, and social participation in the classroom are brought together in this project because of their impact on school success and greater societal participation. We focus on third and fourth graders because this is an important time in a learner’s educational journey in Germany, after which students are sorted into a variety of different types of secondary schools. Teachers who participate in our project will take part in a professional development seminar in which they will become privy to research on writing, feedback, and social participation. During the seminar, teachers will also receive intervention materials and methods developed to promote writing competence, writing motivation, and social participation for flexible use in the classroom. After the classroom intervention is completed, teachers will receive feedback reports containing the results of the project.

Additionally, participating schools will be offered an afterschool program financed by the BMBF and designed and implemented by WWU staff and students. The afterschool program will focus on creative activities that will give primary school students extra writing practice with the help of tablets provided by BMBF.

Participation procedure/project timeline

The participation of each class in our project differs depending on the grade level and the random assignment to school groups A & B. Below are the different options:
