From Münster to Indianapolis - Two Students Conduct Research for their Master Thesis at IUPUI
This summer, two students from the University of Muenster embarked on a research trip to Indiana. For six weeks, Marius Dirksmeier and Maria Drahmann will bet digging through the holdings of the University Archives of the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and talk to professors and other experts about their research projects.
While Maria Drahmann's research deals with the life and work of the entrepreneur and freethinker Clemens Vonnegut, who emigrated in the 1850s from Münster to Indiana, Marius Dirksmeier is working on the development of the College sports at private and state universities in the USA.
"The campus is very impressive and so large that we certainly need a few days to see it all. The staff from the IUPUI are very happy that we are here and try very hard to help in any way possible," describes Maria Drahmann their first impressions of the United States. The work and advise of Karen Roesch, Director of the Max Kade German-American Research and Resource Center and Ray Haberski, Director of the American Studies Departments der IUPUI were essential to making this exchange possible.
Maria Drahmann and Marius Dirksmeier are the first students from Münster to study and conduct research at IUPUI. This exchange will hopefully be expanded in the coming years and the WWU Münster is looking forward to welcome American students on their campus in the near future.
