European Honour for WWU Chemist
Günter Haufe, Professor of Organic Chemistry at the WWU Münster, has been elected as a member of the European Academy of Sciences (EURASC). “The election is a great honour and recognition of my work”, says Günter Haufe. Membership of EURASC reflects scientific excellence in the natural sciences, life sciences and technology fields.
Günter Haufe began his scientific career at the University of Leipzig, and moved to his current position at the WWU Münster in 1991. Through his interdisciplinary approach to science in the Institute for Organic Chemistry, he has made enormous contributions to the Excellence Cluster Cells in Motion (CiM), and the collaborative research centre SFB 656 (Molecular Cardiovascular Imaging). This has relied heavily on his expertise in bio-organic chemistry and organo-fluorine chemistry. Günter Haufe is well known for his important contributions to the synthesis of medicinally relevant building blocks, and the design of new tracer molecules for non-invasive molecular imaging. He is a co-inventor of over 20 patents and has written over 280 scientific research and review articles and book chapters.
The European Academy of Sciences promotes excellence in basic research and technology to promote social and economic development and progress.
