iGEM gives us students the opportunity to set up our own project alongside our studies, in which we can and must make all the decisions ourselves. It's challenging, but that's exactly the appeal of working in the same way as in research, encountering problems and trying to solve them. The fact that we have synthetic biology as a topic is super exciting, as the field is extremely diverse and interdisciplinary.
