BACCARA Bootcamp 2024

The BACCARA Bootcamp 2024 has been a great success. Inspiring talks and workshops, intense discussions and a great spirit made this retreat a very special one. The BACCARA fellows spent three days from 24th to 26th of April in beautiful Bad Sassendorf to network more closely with each other and to gather new ideas for their work.

The first day began with a joint arrival by bus, followed by a presentation by our spokesperson Prof Martin Winter from the Helmholtz-Institute Münster and MEET Battery Research Center, who spoke about the ten commandments of battery research. In the afternoon, the program was rounded off with a workshop on mental health in Academia by Dr Hendrik Huthoff and a presentation by Dr Tim-Patrick Fellinger from BAM (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung).

The second day consisted of two workshops - one on AI and coding by Dr Daniel Mertens and another from the company JEOL on (micro)structure analysis with electron and X-ray radiation.

On the third day, the fellows gave presentations in several groups on the basics of cross-dissertation topics within BACCARA.

The excellent atmosphere at the Hotel Schnitterhof and the stimulating talks and discussions gave us a lot of new impetus for our work and we discussed new opportunities for cooperation.
