About GAPS
GAPS (Gesellschaft für Anglophone Postkoloniale Studien / Association for Anglophone Postcolonial Studies), is the most prominent academic organization in German speaking countries for the study of postcolonial anglophone cultural and linguistic practices.
GAPS was founded in 1989 as the GNEL/ASNEL (Association for the Study of the New English Literatures). In 2014 the association renamed itself into GAPS, in order to represent the scope of the work covered by the Association‘s members more inclusively.
Within the last 25 years, the association has become a platform for academically and culturally crucial debates within the field of postcolonial studies and has continuously contributed to core conceptual and institutional developments that shape the discipline.
