Twelve contributions by scientists from different disciplines are collected in this volume. They all revolve around the theme of Cyprus and are generally based on speeches which were given during a lecture series at the University of Münster in 1997/98. The range of contents is widely diversified. Several essays are devoted to Cyprus in the second millennium B.C. and its contacts with cultures from the Near East and the Aegean. Other contributions deal with late ancient-Christian mural and vault mosaics in Cyprus, with the role of the island in the medieval Levant trade by Venice, with portraits of Queen Caterina Cornaro, with the work of the Renaissance-musician Hieronymos Tragodistes, with the importance of traditional music and with the structure of the island’s upper educational system.
